Haley and her group of friends return to a building with amped-up security and a media frenzy, while still dealing with fresh memories of violence. Are they just supposed to finish their math homework? They must contend with this new reality and try to regain some semblance of mental health.

Hannah's math teacher, Ms. Betty, who sees the talent and potential of Hannah as a budding writer, offers an opportunity to join a writer's group, straining Hannah and Day's relationship. ​
